ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The visual energy in the piece is balanced between the detailed background and the more simplified, bold figures. The figures appear almost robotic or mannequin like, which may suggest a commentary on identity, individuality or the ways in which people are shaped by their surroundings, especially in a urban or digital context. Overall this piece feels like a reflection on identity, technology and urban culture. The structured yet chaotic background contrasts with the bold simplicity of the figures, creating a layered, thoughtful work that engages the viewer on multiple levels, inviting questions about the nature of self and environment.

Serge Pierre Callens is an artist whose vibrant works explore the intersections of punk aesthetics, pop culture and abstract expressionism. Currently based in Brussels, Serge Pierre Callens began their artistic journey with a variety of mediums and styles. Over the years their work has evolved into a distinctive visual language that reflects the bold energy of urban life and the freedom of self expression. Drawing inspiration from street art, music and post modern iconography, Serge Pierre Callens captures the dynamic tension between chaos and order, color and form and the personal. My artistic process is one of intuitive exploration. My artistic statement is to challenge conventional notions of beauty and structure by embracing the imperfect and the unexpected. Inspiration by a variety of sources from the streets of Brussels to the punk music that I grew up with. The DIY ethos of punk culture is deeply ingrained in my work, I’m inspired by the modern pop artists as well as the abstract expressionists. My aim as an artist is to continually push the boundaries of my creative practice and I want my art to resonate with people from all walks of life, provoking thought, emotion and dialogue.
