Velvet Two Drawing

Since returning to making art, I've found my approach, technique and interests regarding subject matter completely changed. After years of working as a ballet dancer, donning elaborately designed tutus and costumes and sewing countless pairs of pointe shoe ribbons, I find that I am drawn to decorative textiles- their intricate details and textures, their purpose and usage, how they can be shaped and folded and paired together. I enjoy highlighting these characteristics while at the same time, not getting too bogged down in the tiniest of details. I work primarily in oil pastels- a somewhat clunky medium- in order to bring color combination, lighting and texture to the forefront, while letting any minute attributes fade away.
