WOOD BLOCKS AND TIE DYEING. 2016. Drawing

It's always a fun day at the workshop. The wood blocks are etched into with simple and complex patterns. The inks and dyes are selected and arranged according to their times of application. The lengths of fabrics are laid out in readiness for the blocks or otherwise folded, twisted, tied and dipped in different tubs of coloured liquids. Slow and controlled movements in the tubs result in a more controlled patterning and the more vigorous swirling and bubble rousing, gives way to the blurred intermingling of various tones. When unravelled, excited squeals emanate at the unexpected results. After the drying, they sit and appraise with wonderment, their achievements.
