This is one of my two drawings that were awarded 1st prize in an international competition titled "The Power of Colour". You may have fish every year is a Chinese sentiment wishing that one may have abundance in their lives. In Asia Koi fish represent strength, ambition, perseverance and good luck. As I spent many years living and travelling in Asia I was able to experience many of the traditions of their cultures and Koi are everywhere. I chose this image for it's bright colours in the dark pond and the movement of the fish in the water and the reflection of the light creates obscurity and interest. This artwork is framed with a black frame and black mat, and had non reflective glass. The framed dimensions are 50 x 36 x 3 cm

Patience; a virtue which is lost in a world of instant gratification. Not a naturally patient person Briar is however a perfectionist. Unfortunately one cannot live without the other, so photorealist drawing presented itself as a unique kind of challenge. With each work taking countless hours she had to go against her desire for immediate results and learn to be patient; with herself and her drawing. Patience guides her to make each mark, tiny and precise. Patience compels her to fill in each detail as if it were to be seen, but often goes unnoticed overlooked by the bigger picture. Patience, her counsel, reminds her that all practice is progress. The paradox of this new found patience; she has overcome a need for perfection and has simply fallen in love with the process, not as a means to an end but as a means to creation. Briar’s artwork can be characterised by the brilliant and richly saturated colours which give a luminescence so striking that they come alive before your eyes. Colour and light, integral elements explored throughout her work, are often intertwined with the dynamic qualities inherently found within the movement and stillness of water, along with her intrinsic curiosity for the human psyche and the fundamentals of human nature she endeavours to evoke an emotional response to each artwork and awaken a sense of familiarity. As Briar’s proficiency grows she continues to pursue work that challenges her nature, while portraying a unique perspective of reality.
