My brother, back from Japan, offered me on day the book "RANSHO", from Sudo Masato. During the 80's, this artist took pictures of men and women, tattooed in the Japanese tradition. Mysterious people (all covered by tattoo, and with face hidden), beautiful attitudes, incredible skill of the tattoo artists. When a friend asked me to participate to an "April Fool's" exhibition, the idea to get inspiration from Sudo Masato came naturally : traditional fishes and tattoos. With this work done, I contacted Sudo Masato, had the chance to chat a bit with him, and get the great honor to be authorized to continue and publish this work. Many thanks Sudo-San ! ... and then I continued with other inspiration sources ...

Born in 1968, J.M. Ortholand has been drawing and painting, especially, since 2005, at the Ecole Supérieure d'Arts of Grenoble, France. But not only : in his garage, in the metro, but also on the wall of his house, when his wife asks him, kindly and insistently. He likes border-line characters and animals, urban landscapes, trying to tell a story, and drinking wine with friends. This doesn't improve neither the health of his liver, nor the quality of his painting or the global warming.
