Western European painting, and in particular, the drawings of Degas, Lautrec, Schiele and Rodin have always inspired and urged me on… later, the works, and the mode of expression, of Bay Area artists such as Diebenkorn and David Park influenced me greatly. What I seek are patterns and threads, a continuum over cultures and time… to bend the use of figure as metaphor. And imagery of the human form is used as vessel for both the expression of movement’s potential, and of innate energy. There is a timeless element to the use of pure line - that essential of graphic abstraction, and inherent in it - implied potential for growth. I prefer an "open" statement, and invite the viewer to complete each piece based upon his or her own personal history and experience. This interaction grants each work an added dimension - another “life”.
