About The Artwork
The surface is rough sea salt with viscous red cord sewn through the surface. The figure is an antique print after van dyke severely corrupted by nature. real thorns pierce the surface through the hands and feet with a jeweled star. The frame is burned and corrupted like the body. The piece is sealed in layers of varnish to protect the work and the finish is matt with a high gloss frame.I feel a liberation of the spirit breaking out of it's mortal coil into a jubilant transformation. The salt in the background draws water from the atmosphere and drips sweat/ tears down the figure.
