artist / drawing based on pen / live in Seoul, Korea / Description of work - Sometimes when I read a novel, I would read a author's note. Many of them talked about the motivation which makes writers who they are. When I read those calm and looking back of their own lives notes, I can see that there is desire that prove who they are and it is melted into the strong drive of life. And in the hidden side of those note, there's a memory of threat derived from unproven self. Sometimes It's overwhelming to feel the power of anxiety and insecurity between relationship. Those anxiety and insecurity make people doubt themselves and choose the wrong way to avoid threat. Like a famous Friedrich Nietzsche quote "And when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.", An obsession with an incompleteness passes throughout the life and shake the ego to its very foundation. 'Parade' series is a process to make a caricature of an anxiety and 'Infected' series is based on a minute observation. My self-observation is concluded this sentence 'Look at the anxiety around you clearly'. And it is most important rule which i want to get not to feel insecure and self-conscious and to protect myself. To see oneself in an objective way prevents a reproduction and to stretch the meaning of anxiety. 'Infected' series is basically an extension of self-observation. In these series, a psychoneurotic disease is not a disease which is caused by virus infection but caused by increasing anxiety. And I observe the state and depict the state of an infection in this series. I want to gaze ailing self through observation and expression and to grasp the truth of anxiety. Spread of negative memories and obsession with an incompleteness are the most serious problems for me to be fulfilled to be appropriated. My works start from sleep which is a kind of lack but in the base of it there are deep anxiety and dissatisfaction throughout whole life. I want to find my own way by observing enormous insecurity which makes me keep go on.
