About The Artwork

____________________ What do you see at first sight? An apple, right? But if you come closer to this artwork, you will see how a whole new world of objects open. And you might have already realized that the apple is not drawn directly. It only exists because all the other objects are drawn in a certain way and are positioned in the right place for it. Is not life and our world like that? Woven from billions of lives, every strand crossing every other to form the whole. Like the other artworks of the series 1 = 1000, the apple is the translation of one of the many meanings of the homonym Reflection into the language of art. I used a ballpoint-pen to draw objects on paper. Purposefully so that during the later coloring of the partial surfaces with colored pencils, the shape of an apple, which is not directly marked out, optically emerges from the centre. The aim is to artistically portray 'Reflection' as an unconsciously developing process of thinking. Thinking as a comprehensible process in an artistic-pictorial depiction. It is the kind of reflection in which hundreds of small fragments of ideas are collected and put into a larger context, or in the scientific research of several observations a valid theory model can be derived. Or in other words, the train of thought leads to one result. The big silhouette of the apple in this drawing would not materialize without the small objects grouped or interwoven around the apple. My main objective was, as with the other works of art of the series 1 = 1000, to create an artwork which entertains the viewer as long as possible. I set myself this goal, because of my experiences at many vernissages. I noticed that many visitors only looked at a piece of art for a few seconds and then began talking to each other about a completely different topic. I watched this phenomenon in dozens of galleries. Perhaps, it is because of how contemporary art is perceived in public. Nowadays many people think that anyone can be an artist without having any kind of skill. And that might be the reason why we have a situation, where abstract works by finesse artists exist alongside those of laymen. I then ask myself each time, while looking at an abstract work of art, is it really creative, what I am seeing in front of me? Interestingly, the same question haunts my mind as I look at a realistic painting. The abstract may be a work created only by arbitrary movements of the paintbrush, and the realistic one, just a work which required a careful and precise procedure. So, I asked myself how can I create an artwork which has elements that make it for its viewer sufficient enough to deduce my creative process. Limitation is a key factor to creativity. That is why I limited myself to objects and plants, no humans or animals. This enabled me to highlight my creativity in this drawing. I selected certain objects and before I drew them I thought about how to connect them. The result was that I created connections on two levels. The first one is obvious, the big apple connected to the candle's flame, camera, swimming pool and plenty other objects. The second connection is among the objects which form together the key. For example, the train track connected to a roof or the buildings which are part of a keyboard. These connections in this work should be sufficient for the viewer to deduce my creative process. These two levels of connections make the viewer wanting to discover more and that makes the apple even more entertaining for the viewer.
