Awakening to Patience Drawing

'Awakening To Patience' is a self portrait painted after a long period in my life of what one could best describe as "the dark night of the soul". From the Latin word 'patientia' a derivative of 'pati' "to suffer", I chose this title to illustrate the initial stages of my trying to make sense of this dark journey.....awakening as it were to the possible meaning behind the suffering. The gesture of despair and submission; surrender and struggle narrates the tale. "Oh that I had wings like a dove, then I could fly away and be at rest".......text, snake's skin and other found objects tell the story. This work is one of recognition of the dark places we humans can sometimes traverse...... it is also one of celebration of what can await us after waking from the trial.
