About The Artwork

"Devotion" Desy Gitary (b. 1980) does not start her creative activity with closed curve. She starts with an expressive stroke on paper or canvas. From that stroke, she goes deeper, step by step, with no prediction of her final result. The theme is very personal, based on what she is feeling or worrying, to be said in another language; the tendency of her emotional situation. In the matter of visual, she processes body as subject matter. For her, the body is the text which will never end to be narrated. The body has sacred meaning, as the light of the soul (Prof. Dr. Nicolaus Driyarkara SJ, "Filsafat dan Manusia", 1969). Daisy tends to be sensitive to catch special moments outside. She often connects the moments to her personal emotion which frequently in contrary. On one hand, she longs to be embraced and devotes herself wholly to someone, but in other hand she wants freedom. This kind of situation can be seen in this work that present her ambiguous feeling through the expressive lines which illustrates a woman's body lies in a man`s arms. The body looks like falling, but there is still purple rope (shawl) holds it.
