About The Artwork

Grigor Narekatsi (or Krikor, Grigor Naregatsi) was an Armenian monk, poet, mystical philosopher and theologian, born into a family of writers. The book of mournful songs is a lyrical and mystical poem by Grigor Narekatsi. Completed in 1002 and consists of more than 10 thousand lines. The earliest surviving list dates from 1173. Excerpts were printed as far back as 1513 in Venice, for the first time it was fully printed in 1673 in Marseilles. The book is completely handmade, includes 22 miniature paintings, a leather cover with silver details and stones,
