About The Artwork

LIMITED EDITION of 5 only Memories in Smoke series - 1/5 Fumage and photography fusion The Struggle to create. Most people struggle with the fear of failure. And its exactly that repetitive failure that will bring on further and deeper development. The day after I decided to plunge into working with fire as a creative medium, the mountain no more than 100 or so meters away started to burn. I carry with me the intense fear of burning to death as a means to which my life is ended. So it was enormously strange that during that evacuation, I found myself after severe stress, all of a sudden feel calm and so peaceful that I, after having packed my car ready to race away from all that I owned, flooded with a sense that no harm would befall me, to the point where I went to go lie on my bed and fell asleep during the raging fire. When you find yourself as an artist struggling too much to work, feel blocked, or to feel the right direction that you want to go in - my best advice is to change everything that you are doing. Change medium, subject, scale, and importantly, stop thinking and feel more. It might not be needed to be a permanent change, but it is required to see anew, feel a change, if only to bring you back to a starting point with a different approach. Create emotions, through, loving, music, loss, fear, happiness, belief, faith, joy. Let it wash over you, let it consume your thoughts till only a quiet remains, and then start again. Change everything. Because here is a great truth. If it's too hard, it's NOT right. When its right: - it's not hard. It flows like water and its as easy as breathing and the switch is flipped on as much as a new lover can excite you. It will be who you are and it will feel natural and be good.

Artist Statement "I am an artist because it is something that I am as a being of creation and creation is a primary function thus. Inside I find a well of immeasurable, quiet turmoil where shapes, forms and colour surface and struggle to find life outside of my being. I allow these to overwhelm me every time I work and find solace in the fact that they are a part of me. A Singular line can have as much beauty as the most complex verse or pattern, and embodies all of what the artist is and can be. Contrasts within work, life, light and dark, soft and hard, good and bad just the beauty of things being, even a single look in a child's eyes or a bottle top long discarded and given to rust, all the minute changes in the being of things are where I find beauty and a reason to work. I paint to be me. Art cannot conceal any lies. Within it can only be truth.”
