Sunflower Drawing

During a workshop, the artist was asked to contemplate how a flower might experience life. This piece came into being shortly after the artist engaged in a meditation on the sunflower. Prevalent throughout her meditation was a feeling of empathy with the sunflower’s abiding love for the sun. Although rooted to the earth, it raises itself ever higher, growing as tall as it can to be closer to the sun’s warmth and radiance. “Sunflower” is representative of how love can be the impetus for extraordinary growth. This piece was done entirely by hand with no digital aids using a compass, protractor, ruler, and a variety of ink pens. The central image is on watercolor paper which has been cut and placed on a black glitter background.
