Art Description

Installation: Paper on Paper.

Elisabeth Lecourt was born in Oloron Saint Marie, France in 1972 then moved to London to gain her MA at The Royal College of Art. She exhibits widely in Europe, Asia and the US.

The series "Les Robes Géographiques" began as a series of studies and sketches in 2002. As a cartographer depicts maps to understand the world we live in, I make the maps to take the shapes of clothing, representing the wearer’s habitat and identity, forming an intimate connection with the wearer.

Within "Les Robes Géographiques" I use maps forming clothes and garments as a "rubbing" of the body and soul. It's a continuation of personal thoughts found throughout my work, which I creates using a range of materials to provoke and extract emotions.
