Instead of making work about the bigger picture, which I do normally, for the "Witte Slagerij" (an old butcher shop) I made a site-specific artwork dealing with a specific event. The event is the economical fight for the arctic in the search for oil. A struggle for the preservation of the arctic itself should be a lot more meaningful. A drilling platform made out laboratory equipment is placed on a pile of ice. For several weeks the work is shown with blocks of ice as "Arctic". When the ice melted the work got the title "Memory of the Arctic", a prophecy that could come true. A photoshoot over time got the same title.

Harry Schumacher makes both 3D installations and 2D work as mixed media on felt in lead. In both 2D and 3D work an alternative world is created in which the same elements return in multiple works. When man looks at nature it will always be from the point of view of mankind with a hidden agenda. We see nature as a laboratory for our own needs. We only want to preserve nature if it is not to our disadvantage. (The colour of) blood is used, because for us it is a sign of alarm. The strange combination of the blood and the trees means that we are not capable of determining the wound.
