Cheerful and Undefeated Installation

Everything we experience is part of a kaleidoscope of layers; each instant a unique moment that builds on what came before and contributes to the dialogue of our existence. I hope to draw viewers into the vast possibilities of color and form, beyond a passing glance, and into the depth of layers each painting holds. I allow myself to be submersed in a meditative process, purely intuitive and experimental, almost automatic; free from any preconceived notion of what the layers might become. I describe my process as “instinctual flow.” Simple mark making, leading to candid shapes and forms, influences my direction as I paint. In this exchange I become enveloped in the blending of colors and rhythmic, repetitive motions. In the experience of creating, I find my senses attuned to nature. The natural world is so familiar, yet so mysterious, at the same time. While Nature’s organic systems are simple, they are also infinitely complex. True depths of beauty observed in the calm of nature are a source of deep inspiration, and have become the core influence of my creative process. I am interested in the process of layering in the development of nature’s brilliant scenes. The formation of all its parts, dynamic and ever-changing, perfect in their imperfections, places me into a state of wonderment and awe. Painting has become my attempt to evoke a semblance of this feeling, through the development of composition. I have endeavored to find the balance between simplicity and depth in my painting, connecting with the reality of the organic balance inherent in all life.
