Work Circles is inspired by circle of life, and its silence in motion. Also, when I started to make this work, it immediately associated me with Croatian lace work, which is made usually by older women in rural and islands area of Croatia. When it is made, it is made with silence, concentration, focus, and peace. These women know what they are doing. This same virtues are the ones I am looking through my art work. Using the similar focus, the similar gestures, the similar state of mind, but leaving out the craft part and only focusing on rithm of making holes.
First, I painted the linen with watered glue (home made gesso :) to make it firm, and then used soldering iron to make holes. When makin holes, the heat burned the edges of the holes a little bit, which gives a warm note to the whiteness and minimalism of this work.
On the upper right side is hardly visible pencil hand written text "ne ce pas une nappe dentelle"- this is not a lace tablecloth, as a little secret dedication to Rene Magritte.
This work is without hardware, meant to be like the cloth, rough and "bumpy", only attached to the wall with nails and leave it to hang as it is.
