About The Artwork

The piece tells us the story of Dido queen. Elisa escaped from Tiro with his followers and arrived to the coast of North Africa. There she asked the Berber king Iarbas for a small bit of land for her and her people. The king, cunningly, accepted to give them as much land as could be encompassed by an oxhide. Dido accepted. She cut the oxhide into fine-fine strips so it was enough to encircle an entery hill wich was therefore named Byrsa, that eventually became Carthage. Once she was the queen of that town Elisa was named by aboriginals Dido. The oxhide is represented by a recycled lytographic sheet that conserves the ink of the drawing made with it. The same sheet become the Dido's hand developing the strip for encircle a great piece of land for her people. In this way oxhide and hand are the same thing. The unless strip of this sheet can be put in variable measures. While the hand is put in an horizontal plane, the oxhide is attached to the wall.
