HEART OF THE OCEAN MACRAME Installation

MATERIAL – 100% COTTON CARVED STICK LENGTH – 55CM COLOURS – TEAL AND ORANGE THE STORY BEHIND OUR MACRAME'S In recent months we all experienced very deeply not being able to see and cuddle our loved ones. The world slowed down and we could only count on technology to stay in touch. It could have either a positive or negative impact on our relationships with our families and other close people in our lives. This motivated me to come up with the product that screams: “Hey! No restrictions or lockdown will change your relationship with people you love and care for!!! Everything depends on you and the power of your relationship!!!” So for this project, I invited a very important person, my mum who lives in a different country. Despite the distance, we work on each piece together. Our macrame’s are a symbol of the power of relationships, love and support, and prove that you can anything if you love and care for it, despite difficulties or distance. HOW WE DO IT I feel very connected to nature, so I also want to make our macrame’s as natural as possible. I only use natural fibre and hand-dye the cotton cord here, in the UK. This way I know exactly what product is used to colour the cord and I can have complete control over the colour shade. I then send it to my mum in the Netherlands where she hand carves the stick and makes our beautiful macrame’s. The whole making process takes up to a month. Drying the cord, posting it and weaving it takes time but our WHY is so strong that it’s worth waiting for to have such a meaningful product at home. THE COLOURS WE CHOOSE My mum and I are very different. However, we both love colours. We love mixing them and coming up with new colour combinations. Ones that make our macrame’s really stand out. Traditionally macrame is associated with nature; neutral and calm colours, cosiness and fluffiness. However, I feel that there are so many amazing colours in nature that they should also be used. Every season brings a different colour palette to our life, we have amazing sunrises and gorgeous sunsets, trees change colours and the sky is different every day. This is what we focus on so our colourful macrame’s reflect this beauty. NAME We name each of our macrame’s in tribute to every colourful phenomenon in nature. We truly hope that our macrame’s, our mother and daughter project, will bring you happiness and become a meaningful addition to your home.
