ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My inspiration comes from my love of pattern and my background in textile design. My hope when the work is hung in a large or small space, the complexity of the work, with all the multiple images continue to unfold each time you look at it, creating interest and joy. My choice of medium is a combination of art skills in textile design, hand work, sculpture and photography all coming together to create a new visual experience. The subject and style are constantly evolving depending on what inspires me at the moment.

Gwen Samuels is an installation artist based in Los Angeles with a studio in Santa Monica. Inspired by close observations of her surroundings, she has sculpted the reformatted shape of animals, insects and dresses with delicate hand-stitching and free hanging strings. She also expresses her imagery in textile, cultures, travel and architecture often with repeated patterns and irregular shapes. Her work has been represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
