About The Artwork

In collaboration with LILLI TÖLP Lifeforms II is a site-specific installation made of natural and local materials that are characteristic for Kochi. The city, especially the Old Town area of Fort Kochi is well-known for its colonial buildings, its colorful wooden doors and window grills, which are at many parts already covered in moss, trees or bushes. Using these doors and window frames as ready-mades, combining them with natural materials like grass and soil, artists reflect on the complexity of the urban and natural identity of Kochi. The element of cube stands for human and human constructions, built from mementos of the past. The straight nature of this geometric pattern is in organic composition with the dynamisms of the living, ever-changing nature. This cube of solidarity is a reminder for us, humans, to witness our position within the cycle of nature: we are a part of the ecosystem, not in any ways the top of it. The cube is covered in myths of the past and in the nature of the present. Grass and soil is growing around it, as all of us – buildings and humans – are inevitably affected and once overtaken by nature and natural forces. Articulating ecological concerns, raising awareness of people on soil being a living material, our Earth being a breathing entity, and discussing the importance of human responsibility in the natural flow of the ecosystem are key ideas of the installation. Inviting the audience to explore Nature and its multi-dimensions, creating an emotional relationship with it, based on caring and respect, is sought. Only when human becomes one with nature will he understand the dynamism and rhythm of it, and will be liberated from the alienation from it, the type of solitude we label as so(i)litude.

I am a Hungarian artist, activist and educator. My works articulate social and ecological concerns and are strongly connected to the specific environment and community. At the boundaries of art and science, my projects aim to raise awareness on various sustainability challenges, in an attempt to catalyse a change. I am keen on working together with local communities and other sectors; these forms of interactions define if an object, an installation, a performance, a workshop, a discussion or a festival is born.
