The landscape around my studio is a mix of industrial and natural settings. I feel like I’m in an exceptional spot to witness and document how I experience the interconnectedness of life energies.
When I’m outdoors in the midst of this unique landscape, I might take note of the way the bold line of a railroad track intersects with a wispy blade of grass, then how the grass line ruffles across a field of color to meet and crawl up the edge of a tree trunk, only to creep back down the other side of the trunk to attach itself to the delicate outline of a rabbit. The rabbit’s foot thumps the pebbles and the pebbles create a rumpled line down to the river water, where a wave ripples and splashes against the bridge support. The support rises to join the suspension cable that ultimately unites with the ridge-line of Forest Park. Somehow, this connect-the-dots exercise circles back to my hand and I draw. Revelation is a drawing of a wetland environment, suspended from a steel trellis; it is an observation of nature and industry, and a prayer to strengthen a respectful connection between the two.
