ABOUT THE ARTWORK

When I look back and think about the period in which I created these works, I realize that it was a moment of awareness of the pillars of my process. The understanding of art as an object, without the pretense of being something solemn. The appreciation of my art as my existence, and that this moment is unique in history, in life, and is magnificent. That the importance lies not in the surface, in the materials or in the environment in which it is being made, but in the person who makes it. These objects are the record of the materialization of a moment, which cannot be repeated, which we can only visit and contemplate. The act performed. In these works there is the intention of simplifying the process, adapting the resources. An artisanal, physical and mental process, which creates textures and cracks, like marks of time. Visibly raw, unpretentious objects, which require delicacy in handling, which, despite their fragility, are sustainable. The object itself #1121 x 87 cm  Acrylic painting on Kraft paper collage, 2023.

Johnathan Faifer was born in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and from an early age, they displayed their passion for the world of arts. During their childhood, they explored their creativity by tinkering with materials in their grandmother's studio, who was also a painter and always provided them with this space to do whatever they wanted to do.This formative period sowed the seeds of creativity that would flourish in their adult life. They relocated to Portugal in 2015, where they embarked on a journey of learning by enrolling at the School of Arts and Design (ESAD), delving deep into the study of Digital Arts and Multimedia. This academic experience was a turning point, as it not only solidified their technical knowledge but also reconnected them with their creative self, which had been dormant until then. After completing the three-year course, Johnathan had the opportunity to explore the world of graphic design. While they gained valuable experience as a graphic designer, this phase revealed a fundamental truth: their true calling lay in artistic creation. The desire to breathe life into their own visions and explore personal expression through the creation of their own images led them down an independent path. Throughout their career, Johnathan's interest in crafting images continued to grow, leading them to explore painting as a means of artistic expression. This immersion in painting added a new dimension to their practice. The daily practice of creation became the central focus of their life, driving them to rent their first studio in 2020. In this dedicated space, they have consistently worked on their latest body of work. Influenced by their life experiences and the surrounding popular culture, Johnathan continues to evolve as a multimedia artist, delving into the layers of creativity and the human experience.
