My work explores the concept of cultural identity, integration, and displacement. I use silk, a cultural-rich material, as a metaphor for my personal identity and cultural interchange. My painting is the interplay between deconstruction and reconstruction material, two and three-dimensional surface. Influenced by my Vietnamese cultural heritage and background in fashion design, which has shaped my studio practice in creating art, especially in my use of materials such as fabric. My silk pieces were constructed in the way garment would be made without a physical body. Each fold and drape is secured temporarily with a push pin and constantly change during the installation process. My works examine the importance of the senses and emotions by transforming a delicate material like silk into a complex surface and sculptural forms. The artwork form was not permanent, whenever the piece was reinstalled in a new space the sculpting process was repeated but the result will never turn out the same.
