About The Artwork

Made with more than 40 used wedding dresses, audio original. Lost somewhere in the countryside, almost unknown, without being consecrated by the Catholic Church lies one of the jewels of Uruguay: the tiny chapel built by Catalan urbanist and architect, Antoni Bonet in memory of writer Susana Soca (1906-1959), who died in an accident at the age of 53, and never married. The chapel was inaugurated in the late 1960’s and was abandoned for decades. “Dozens of stories without body in the ritual body of an empty chapel ... For a year, the artist collected dozens of wedding dresses and royal stories, which she displayed as a pagan altar, a vanguard altar. The space they inhabit is an unconsecrated space, a no place, only remains the virginal purity of the white and its symbolism, a ritual stained or bathed by the soft changing colors of the triangular kaleidoscope... I view my practice as an ongoing process where I include a vast inventory of objects, images, stories and other inventions I revisit time and time again. I use layering, blurry images and a certain formal sensuousness to create an immersive experience offering access from different interaction levels for every individual. My artwork often includes pieces I collect from flea markets and family and community archives. Thus, individual and collective searches are an essential part of the process. I propose a strategy of hybridisation and disruption that invites questions about the limitations we face in everyday life. My work therefore explores the ways in which we are affected and transformed by external factors and impulses, and the interrelation between a personal conscience and the collective perception.
