About The Artwork

"Weightless Feather Light" The traditional usage of curtains is and was a way to protect us from light and view. This artwork “Weightless Feather Light” has an ephemeral character of fragility and is a meditation about translucency, a prototype conveying light as much as possible. Its principal ingredients are more than 1200 ripped goose feathers, long about 15 to 20 cm, and hot glue. It has a lace structure long and wide ±300 cm and can be hanged in two or three dimensional waved shapes. It has required three months of hand work reflecting a meditation upon birth and death. It is a miracle, a challenge as life itself and to my own surprise the piece was resilient in its frailness and can be hanged. In 2013 it has been exhibited as part of two installations belonging to the project “Weightlessness and Turbulence” The philosophy underlying these projects are about the duality of life and death, of heavy and transparent and trespass the borders between sculpture and textile. This soft sculpture, as most of my projects of recent years, is focused on the changing environment and climate burdens, as the disasters of animal extinctions and need of recycling wastes to invent new art.

Born in 1949 San Sebastian, Spain, lives in Netherlands and France - Large Conceptual Installations - New projects each year - Light & heavy materials - Unconventional techniques developing works passing over the borders of sculpture and painting - Project books with special layouts - Active in many countries. My esthetic standpoint is based on the duality between life and death. Therefore in each of my projects I choose materials out of two types, either light translucent or heavy opaque ones. Among the first ones are light textile materials, as gauze, rice paper, tracing paper, organza, the second type includes lead, sea salt, wood, charcoal, porcelain and stone. I have developed my projects in the numerous places where I lived; they reflect my nourishment with the local cultures as well as the spiritual significance of the installation site. Six or seven process steps make up every project: from identifying the concept and suitable installations spaces, through the transformation of poor materials into poetic objects, to the final design and the production of books about the realization of the art work.
