About The Artwork

I often venture into wild places just to walk. Often while I am walking I am encouraged to make small ephemeral arrangements or as I like to refer to them: dances, of found objects that I find around me, materials and dances that talk of that place, that day, that time. Like a dance, an arrangement of steps choreographed within the flow of the steps of life, these works are like a choreography of the objects used - they will return to their flow of life ...and just like being part of a dance their timeline will be affected by the energy of the dance. This work was made in a cool temperate rainforest at a time when the coachwoods where dropping yellow leaves. As I was crossing a shady creek the contrast of the leaves was intense and I stopped mid crossing to make this arrangement of yellow leaves on a dark wet rock with the reflections in the water of the mothership (the tree from which the leaf had had life as a processor of sunshine). Sometimes I am encouraged to write poetry instead of make physical arrangements.

Greer Taylor is a visual artist and poet based in Kangaroo Valley, South of Sydney, Australia. All aspects of her work are deeply informed by the idea of wilderness and wild places, her work is most usually about looking inside the structure of our world to reveal its vulnerability and interrelationship. After many years working in various aspects of the visual arts from fashion to graphic design, Greer has now worked full time for the last 11 years as an artist, mainly making installations and sculpture. She exhibits regularly around Australia showing at exhibitions such as Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi NSW, Lorne Sculpture Biennial in Victoria, as well as solo exhibitions and many other group exhibitions... In 2012 Greer won the inaugural 'Sculpture at Scenic World Prize' held in the Jamison Valley rainforest in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, and early in 2014 won the biannual 'Western Sydney University Acquisitive Sculpture Award'. She has also been commissioned to produce 3 public artworks. In late 2014 Greer published a book called ‘ephemeral’ with brings together two aspects of her ‘wild place practice’ – small ephemeral artworks and poetry written and made while in wild places. At present Greer is renovating a house and as such is producing very few artworks but she has plans for new works...
