A Murder of One Artwork

In “A Murder Of One” I explore the themes of isolation, beauty and the symbolism of the crow. A crow, crafted from used postage stamps, perched atop a weathered fence post, its presence both ominous and captivating. The rusty wire that binds the post seems to echo the crows silhouette, creating a sense of harmony between the natural and manmade elements. Set against a deep orange sky, the composition evokes a sense of contemplation and introspection. The crow, often associated with mystery and intelligence, becomes a poignant symbol of individuality and self-awareness. By using used postage stamps to create the crow’s form, I highlight the ways in which even the most mundane objects can be transformed and recontextualized. The title “A Murder Of One” references the collective noun for crows, while also alluding that even a single individual can be a powerful force. In this work, I invite the viewer to contemplate the intersections of nature, symbolism, and the human experience, and to find beauty in the unexpected.
