ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My character-based works draw from nostalgia, inspired by pop culture icons that have been a part of my life journey, from childhood through adulthood and, now, in becoming a father. My hope is that these artworks bring a sense of joy and connection to those who, like me, value our shared memories and experiences.

Artist, photographer and designer living and working on Yugambeh Country (Gold Coast), Australia. I'm a contemporary Australian artist exploring nostalgia, harmony, memory, shared experience and joy throughout my work. My approach to creativity is diverse and multi-disciplinary. I work across painting, design, photography and installation, continually blurring the lines between analogue and digital processes and outcomes. With my head in the clouds and my feet firmly planted on the ground, I’m interested in the intersection of contemporary art and popular culture. Over my 25-year career, I’ve self-published three books of artwork and photography, including 'Para el Sexo Dialimento' (2006), 'INFINITEYE' (2008), and 'Dreamland' (2012). Some of these works are now part of the permanent collections in the National Library of Australia and the NYC State Library. Alongside my work as an artist, I enjoy speaking at various events, sharing my love for the creative life. You might have seen me speak at events like Semi-Permanent (BNE), AgIdeas (MEL), and Analogue/Digital conferences. Additionally, I've been a keynote speaker for AGDA, the DIA, and Apple. My practice is currently focussed on developing mixed media works exploring shared experience, nostalgia, harmony and equilibrium, realising these themes as both character-based and abstract paintings. Recollection, memory and nostalgia are driving themes evident in my character-based artworks. Drawing from pop culture icons that have shaped my life from childhood to fatherhood, each piece carries personal significance and tells a relatable visual narrative. Through these works, I hope to bring joy and connection to those who value shared memories and experiences. My abstract works also emerge from a place of nostalgia and reflection, where instinctive use of colour and gestural mark-making manifest as abstracted landscapes, balancing personal recollection and hope for tomorrow. These artworks are an intimate expression of the solace I find in the creative process and are a tribute to the transformative power of art, reflecting my hope for a harmonious and balanced future.
