ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My work is inspired by the relationship between ancient practices and modern day religion within the Irish rural landscape with 'folk Catholicism' providing the medium to channel the longing for a more indigenous ideal into modern Ireland. 'Brother' is inspired by the extinction of the native Irish red deer and the Grimm Brothers' fairytale 'Brother Deer' in which a young boy is cursed to spend his life as a stag but still continued to act as his sister's guardian and companion.
