Currency #213 "The Worst Is Over" Artwork

This sculptural painting on a wooden coin is one of my recent works from the Currency Exchange series. In this case, the piece, rendered in vibrant orange tones, incorporates volumetric metallic elements and portrays the profile portrait of an anonymous immigrant framed by the phrase written in Hungarian, "Legrosszabb már elmúlt," which could be translated into English as: "The worst is over." Conceptually, this artwork is part of my project in which I draw from my own experience to explore the theme of foreignness and the sense of 'not being from here.' Furthermore, it connects with the experiences of others who have undergone the challenges of migration. These artworks are designed to function both individually and in multiple compositions, allowing for installations tailored to the space with as many artworks as desired. As an artist of Moldovan origin, I explore themes of foreignness and delve into the well-trodden subject of the value of art with this series. While conventional coins have a fixed value and typically depict a national figure, my coins showcase anonymous faces and offer variable, often arbitrary, selling values. These coins can function both individually and as panels alongside others from the same series, allowing for the creation of installations as vast as desired.
