THOMAS HUNTER MENDOLA provides the creative direction and artwork behind the lifestyle boutique, Bramble Paper Fine Art. Thomas creates large format works on raw canvas with acrylic and graphite. The art has an emphasis more on texture than form and typically begins with a complex layering system of woven together textural surfaces. The organic and unexpected patterns that emerge serve as an impactful base for the applied color schemes. Organic color fields come to life more from inspiration and intuition than planned objective, revealing an atmospheric mood and sense of harmony that reflects life’s beautiful simplicity found in the natural world. While largely self-taught, Thomas’s experience as an artist has emerged from a lifetime of creative influences and experiences within the art, design and illustration world and love of the outdoors. “Turning to abstract and semi-abstract art has opened up a path within that nurtures a deep connectedness to the our natural environment, with it’s wild and expressive beauty of rich hues and shifting seasonal light and shadow. Applying moody palettes of color into my gestural paintings evoke a sense of freedom, breaking from the always moving, amped-up state and forcing a deep embrace of pure feeling and sensation. I’m deeply grateful to spend everyday exploring the lyrical, colorful and emotional energy of nature through my color field art.”
