Deconstructing the rainbow Artwork

Having Lived in South Africa for 50 years or so, I have seen the workings of greedy minds, stripping and laying bare the people of all walks of life. Innocent people reduced to living in squalor, others working for a pittance while they rape and plunder all the reserves of the dynamic country. Once considered the rainbow nation, optimism and enthusiasm ensued everywhere across all peoples of Southern Africa. Dreaming of a new future. The past and present government still defying and dashing these hopes and dreams. Why has the present government plunged the country into darkness, poverty, crime and fear. A corrupt government with no idea of how to run a country. A South African 'quernica', living people a fraction of who they should or could be. Expropriation intertwined with parody, makes me feel nauseated at the sacrifice of the people for fat catting their own pockets. This work is a layered tapestry of the history of two governments in South Africa , pre apartheid and post apartheid both destroying in their paths of governance. The work uses the rainbow colours as a sign of hope, but the red resembles blood and despair, the yellows resemble gold and greed, green, blue and brown, the land that they have been fighting over, brown and black representing poverty and death.
