Based near Wollongong on the NSW South Coast of Australia, artist Darren King has been honing his skills in collage, printmaking, mixed media and painting for the past 10+ years. Darren’s focus prior to rediscovering his love of painting/printmaking in his 40’s was primarily spent building his printing business and family life. Trained in Fine Arts, cartooning, illustration, graphic design and screen printing, his work attempts to fuse elements from each of these practices. Recently he has rediscovered collage and now creates a selection of paintings entirely made from upcycled paper. Discarded magazines, junk mail, maps, paper bags and old books are all harvested for interesting pieces to create original, vibrant textural artworks. King's art captures the beauty in the everyday and occasionally attempts to revive long forgotten favourites. An absolute celebration of the local, the joyous, the small-scale, the tasty, the abandoned and the ordinary. Darren King has won several awards for his art over the years and has been in multiple group exhibitions and sold his fine art to collectors worldwide.
