“This is a single grain of sand within the hourglass of life.” ... If you look closely at the grains of sand under a microscope, they all have different appearances. I thought this was similar to the uniqueness of people. So, I work with the idea of observing people as if looking at each grain of sand, excluding any narrative or emotion. I observe people's gestures through 70 to 100 human body croquis, which I draw every week, and through this process of observation, drawing, and redrawing with paint, I felt that emotions and thoughts were revealed in people's gestures. I call it ‘the gesture of thought.’ And my thoughts cannot help but be reflected in the work during the drawing process. And when I complete a work, it doesn't end there. I often discover their feelings and thoughts while exhibiting and talking to the people who view them. That conversation had an impact on me again. Sometimes, I hear things inside me that are difficult to explain in words through someone else's mouth in exactly the right sentences. I can't forget the thrill of that moment. I think it would be good if you understood that all of these connected processes are my work. This faceless human figure could be anyone. I think it would be good if you could observe what words or emotions come up inside you while looking at my work.

The artist likens life to an hourglass, and the countless grains of sand in it to the various people we encounter in life. She observes people's gestures as if taking out a grain of sand and looking into it. By observing and drawing others, she discovers her own thoughts and emotions. She expresses ‘gestures of thought & emotion’ in various shapes and colors with acrylic paint. Once dry, she peels the paint off the flat surface and recreates it 3-dimensionally on canvas. She subtracts expressions instead of adding them, revealing the subject like writing poetry. Hoping that the viewer's gaze will linger and merge in with the space of the painting where calm and dynamic free gestures play.
