‘Life’, by contemporary artist Clive Sefton is a high-quality piece, created by sandblasting the image from the back of a mirror, leaving 42 concentric circles. Paint is then applied to the back of the piece. It is from a limited edition of 42 and is signed and numbered by the artist. The rings resemble the life rings of a tree or the gentle ripples in a pool, while the number of circles is heavy with allusion: in Kabbalistic tradition, 42 is said to be the number with which God created the Universe and, more recently, sci-fi writer Douglas Adams famously endowed it with significance, as the 'answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything'. Brighton-based artist Clive Sefton is well-known for his word search prints: typographic pieces with an interactive element, inviting the viewer to scour the print for hidden words and phrases. Sefton enjoys the element of fun, but his work also engages with the possibility of finding something new in an image, on every viewing. ‘Life’ features 42 concentric mirrored circles that involve the viewer as they catch themselves, reflected and refracted in the strips. Please note that this piece is supplied unframed. Other colours and sizes are available as individual commissions.

Clive Sefton is a Brighton based artist and designer. His acclaimed series of 'Word Searches' combine clean and beautiful design with fun and interaction. 'I've always been interested in typography and wanted to create typographic works with a twist. I also like interactivity with artwork, and the idea that each time someone looks at a piece, they might see something else...' 'Some people prefer to not draw on the glass, leaving the piece solely as a graphic form, but others feel they need to circle the words and get a sense of achievement and satisfaction by doing so. I like the fact it can be shown in so many ways' - Clive Sefton
