ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Shield series explores the layers of self-preservation and how those layers are revealed and evolve through societal influences and life experiences. The self is never in a state of permanence, but rather, an ever-evolving, permeable, transient form. Shielded by veils, we choose to conceal and reveal certain parts of the self which is reflected in the combination of sheer and opaque pockets of fabric. The undulating movements form rhythmic and repetitive shapes and at times, appear mirror-like. Within the compositions some threads flow freely off the canvas, making the viewer question the permanence of those designations.
