About The Artwork

This work is a personal take on a very famous music cover from New Order: 'Power, Corruption and Lies' from 1983 I have been always very fond of this artwork that became an iconic image and I wanted to investigate the concept of appropriation. I bought a small postcard from the Serpentine Gallery in London and I placed it in a very mouldy area and left it there for a very long time to make the colour washing off. As time was passing by, the postcard was also losing details and slightly decomposing due to the mould. I then scanned and digitally modified it The idea behind it is also to use the title 'Power corruption and lies' which I always found very strong and make it even more strong and use 'Mould on Power, Corruption and Lies in a playful and critical approach. The mould is really visible on the original postcard/work as a chemical reaction caused by the condition in which the work was kept and it also exists in a metaphorical way. I aim to associate power, corruption and lies with something that stinks and it is great to experience and it is in life

Italian artist based currently in London. Her artistic practice investigates and questions the persuasive power of the image and of the visual language. Her body of work incorporates intimate yet universal experiences such as loneliness, abandonment, fear for emotional nakedness and failure. In touching on these topics, she aims to create a collision between opposite languages: the unreal and the imaginary, the document and the oneiric, the personal memory and the collective, aiming to trigger reactions by invoking primal and visceral emotions. She employs the photographic medium to create visual access to the many different readings of existence. Her work often addresses elements of sexuality, mysticism, body language and nature, to create a tense narrative that provokes and relives at the same time.
