ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The "Orisha Ibile" masks series celebrates the essence of Yoruba culture, where masks hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. Each mask is meticulously handcrafted using planishing and repousse techniques, mixed metals, found objects, beads, raffia, and fold forming methods. Through these intricately designed masks, I aim to honor and preserve the rich heritage and traditions of my Yoruba roots, showcasing the beauty and symbolism inherent in these timeless cultural artifacts

Multidisciplinary artist who works in several media, Adeola has a way of bringing colors together to create a visual sensation. When you look at my art, you feel the joy and happiness the colors convey, Adeola said. Her first public exhibition was at the National Orange Show where she won an honorable mention for her work “Wings of Love”. She has since won many awards for her paintings and jewelry designs and has exhibited at local and national juried shows and also served as a juror for local art competitions. Her work is in both public and private collections, such as Riverside Art Museum, Chaffey Community Museum of Art, National Orange Show, Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House, Redlands United Church of Christ, City of Riverside, Universal Studios and many more. In addition to painting, she enjoys working with enamels and metalsmithing to create wearable art. Some of Adeola’s paintings have been shown on the set of Fox’s television drama “Time of your Life,” NBC’s drama, “The Others,” ABC’s “Greys Anatomy”, “Blackish”, most recently HBO’s “Insecure” and CBS’s “The Neighborhood”, Bob Heart Abishola, Peacock’s “Bel-Air” and many more. Most recently, Adeola was part of the collaborative “RISE” Mosaic Mural artists for the City of Riverside. My abstracts are composed with marks and layering allowing me to listen to what direction the work wants to take me…which is the fundamental of an intuitive artist! -Artist Statement- I am a Southern California artist specializing in acrylic and mixed media on canvas. My work focuses on non-objective and figurative abstractions with color playing an important role in creating the atmospheric feel of the painting. I use a variety of materials to create a dynamic visual language that evolves with each layer and mark. Visual imagery of people, animals, and nature emerges through the process. I start with positive manifestation words on the canvas and build up layers intuitively to find a balance between the conscious and unconscious. My paintings evoke femininity, spirituality, and nature, exploring the relationship between nature and humanity through abstract art influenced by my Yoruba culture. I invite you to view a short video on my process of my current owl and kindred spirits series. youtu.be/2620g_MJ6a8
