ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I checked off one of my bucket list adventures this spring and went to Peru - hiking Machu Picchu. This painting began with several photos took on that trip. I used those photos to make cyanotype prints and then colored parts of them with colored pencils. I attached the print to a cradled wood panel and added encaustic - giving it depth and texture. The painting is 11 by 14 inches framed in a black float frame and is wired and ready to hang. Encaustic is an ancient medium combining beeswax with natural tree resin. It is painted while melted in thin layers. Each layer has to be fused to the layers below with heat - I use a torch.
