ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Miniature pieces held significance in the Quitenian school of art during colonial times, contributing to the prominence of Quitenian art. In paying homage to this tradition, I present my own collection, designed to hang on narrow walls when framed. Inspired by my late grandmother, who collected mementos on a piece of land she hoped to visit after a lifetime of hard work, this collection is a reflection of her encouragement during my childhood tree-drawing endeavors. The intention is to prompt viewers to contemplate the passage of time, emphasizing how it accelerates for humans compared to trees. Conceived as miniature, these pieces are suitable for arrangement in small frames, adding a touch of decoration to white walls. I opted for the digital medium to vividly express the kind, happy, generous, energetic, and powerful spirit of my late grandmother. Remember that this is a miniature piece—a digital work that will be printed on matte paper for you to fully appreciate. It comes unframed, and I recommend framing it for display. Hardware is not included.

An Ecuadorian artist, navigates the local artistic landscape with a distinctive approach, diverging from the typical dichotomy prevalent among Quitenian artists. Rather than aligning with the bohemian left or the elite, art-educated right, Angela embraces her identity as an ambitious Quitenian with a down-to-earth perspective. Balancing her artistic pursuits with a middle-class sensibility, Angela introduces a unique voice in the narrative of Ecuador's art scene. She modestly considers herself a sui generis expressionist, influenced by her early exposure to art through her mother, Angie, and the captivating oil-painting sessions with her aunt-in-law, the esteemed artist Micaela Almeida.Angela's artistic journey began with humble doodles of flowers, symbolizing intimacy and family bonds. Her style, marked by an indiscriminate use of colors, reflects her innate creativity. Turning to digital mediums for expression, she reserves traditional materials for moments of artistic freedom. Angela, embracing vulnerability, desires a return to the simplicity of white canvases. She discreetly embeds messages in her art, inviting viewers to discover joy in nature scenes, and showcasing Quitenian humor with humility and depth.
