This canvas reverses the figurative concept of the other ones in this series: instead of having a theme that tends to chaotical behavior that is constrained by a geometrical background, this canvas has a background that exposes chaotic tendencies with a theme that radiates geometrical perfection. The sculpture that features in the center of the canvas Sculptures in the Dark is a form based on the icosidodecahedron in which pentapyramids are nested within each other, each one rotated so that its edge meets the midface of the larger piece. Bringing forward the stories that are enclosed into a chaotical medium is what sculpting is about. It is about imposing order upon chaos without violating the nature of the reality. For a sculptor everything tells a story, even a piece of stone. If you approach sculptures through the dark, it might help you to discover forms that you otherwise wouldn’t see. Even a stone wall has a history of big breaks, cracks and chips that might tell you different stories in the dark then the ones you see during daytime.
