ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Each painting begins with a limited pallet, collage and mark making tools. Distributing works over multiple pieces from session to session, curiously unfolding it’s content over iterations of layer building - never knowing where it’s going until further in it’s development. Eventually a pattern emerges, a nostalgic remnant, a connecting dot, partly covered nuances appearing in chronicles of it’s historical line. It’s really a wild notion, but eventually a theme or idea surfaces, reflecting back in metaphor or other subject matter - my favorite bits. Harmonizing a hero from the cacophony of chronicled marks and collage is where things spring into life with syncro-mystic fashion. As these series of paintings progress, I tend to pull my best bit of collage, one of three boxes by esoteric content; ancient ancestry, world folk traditions and early americana. Choosing something to compliment the abstraction, usually on initial impulses, guided by a feeling or correspondence to something the painting provided earlier.
