There is an expression in English that I have always liked, which can be used when facing a challenge or even a bad moment: ‘stepping stone’. In Spanish, similar expressions are used, such as ‘un escalón’ (a step) or even ‘un trampolín’ (a springboard), but I like the idea that it is something more ...

Natalia Ferber Georgi is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and architect born in Uruguay, raised in Spain, who has also lived in the United States, London, Berlin, and travelled to more than 40 countries, driven by a curiosity to learn about everything. Since May 2023, she has settled back in Madrid. My work seeks to blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy in order to explore the construction of beliefs, truths and other myths based on background and education. I am interested in how the mind edits what we see and what we want to see, and I want to know why good and evil are relative not only to the subject, but also to the person performing the action. I represent situations with the intention of evoking stories in the viewers, trying not to be too literal, so that they have space to discover their own stories and questions. I approach themes through a colourful language, sometimes innocent in appearance, to provide an aesthetic experience that allows dialogue to open up and, ultimately, makes you smile. I am currently focusing on two projects, Made in Avenida Brasil, a story about forced displacement, identity and roots, and La Florería, Laboratorio Artístico, a cultural space whose mission will be to promote integration and awareness about the preservation and promotion of natural space in the built environment, through a combination of works by different artists, so that, like a bouquet of flowers, they show us that beauty is found in diversity and coexistence. A space that opens up dialogue based on respect and curiosity, and promotes small gestures that can improve our quality of life. This space will provide an exhibition space for artists and professionals from various disciplines whose work is focused on or compatible with and nurtures these ideas. I grew up in Spain, but I was born in Uruguay during the military dictatorship. My childhood was spent listening to my parents talk about a distant land. At the age of 12, we moved to this nostalgic land to discover that the stories they told me and reality were very different, possibly because when you remove experience and memories, the place becomes a pile of bricks (and other materials) organised to create architectural and engineering forms. My displacement at an early age had a profound impact on my life, so I decided to make the world my home, travel and freedom (especially freedom of expression) a priority and a source of inspiration for my work.
