About The Artwork

Recently a lot of AI bots have come out and it mostly had some negative reactions from artists, designers and other creatives. It kind of worried me too, but I thought I would give it a try. I was aware of the more famous bots such as DALL-E 2 and MID JOURNEY but during the time I started, these two bots were not yet available, nor did they have Beta versions we could use , so I decided I will try something less popular such as the VQGAN+CLIP AI. I typed in my prompt and my reaction to it was, of course, astounded as it generated the image at speeds probably our mind does when imagining images. Although the first image I generated through my prompt wasn’t what I wanted, I decided to spend some time researching the proper prompts and keyword combinations to use; such as which style of art I wanted, which artist, which rendering software, what medium etc. After generating the images, I would upscale them and download them and post-process them. Using photo-manipulation, matte painting techniques, I improved the somehow clumsy result of the AI’s work. Like a parent helping a child. Then, it dawned to me that for now, AI is definitely just a tool for artists, as it won’t be able to replace artists or designers - for now. These robots navigate through imagination and magnify my creativity. This concept extends to unexplored worlds that the human mind has yet to tap into. WIth this method, the artist becomes the instructor for AI to generate random noise iterated towards output that pleases the eye of the instructor, wherein the instructor cleans and beautifies the image created by the AI. As for now, they are still just a tool, a tool to enhance the imagination.

Born in Manila, Philippines in 1986. I am a visual artist who recently focuses on acrylic paintings, photo-manipulation and installations. In my work, the subjects are represented through a mix of imagined and realistic images, playing with the expectations of the viewer and raising questions about the role that human emotions play in memory. The scenes reflect on psychological impulses and on the way they are depicted and fused with everyday reality. My photographs and paintings explore the traditional boundaries of visual representation, where the creative powers of the unconscious are unleashed to reveal a different reality. In the past I have exhibited in several countries - Australia, England, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Philippines, Poland, Serbia, South Korea, Taiwan, UK and USA. I have also won a few prizes like the 2010 1st prize in the Digital Art Category at the Art Museum of Chianciano Terme, Italy and 2011 Best Photography Illustration from The Redmond Digital Arts Festival in Washington, USA, 2015 2nd place in the Secret Art Prize from the Curious Duke Gallery in London and Nominated for the APBF Signature Art Prize of 2014 from the Singapore Art Museum. I was also named as one of 2014 and 2017 Asia's Top Ten Most Inspiring Visual Artists in Asia by the Top 10 Publications in Malaysia. I was also a 2020 Arte Laguna Prize Finalist and recently I’ve worked with GIANT to create bicycles that are based on the stories and life experiences using bicycles of people that work in the cycling company GIANT. He currently lives in Taichung, Taiwan where he recently has been doing a lot of public art installations.
