This giclee represents my Hard Edge period from 1983 to 2005. While the influence of Vasarely and Albers are evident, I have chosen vibrant colours in geometrical facets, to represent city life. To a certain extent, it is reflective of Mondrian in New York, just like when I had my studio in Sydney, ...

ARTIST BACKGROUND Robert Bader was born in Sydney, Australia in 1961. His father was a musician and his mother was a photographic artist. The family tradition of art extends to an uncle and cousin who worked as commercial artists while two relatives from the 18th century were ceramic artists working in Bavaria. His mother's uncle, Herbert Bayer worked at the German Bauhaus. Robert's work can be found in private collections in Germany, Scotland, USA, New Caladonia and throughout Australia. THE ARTIST Bader tends to work within the mediums of painting, screen printing and digital collage. His work has its basis in Minimalism, Constructivism and the theories of Bauhaus dogma. Works from the 1980's and 1990's revolve around the pure essence of colour and structure. Progressively, his works have begun to analyze issues of consumerism and barcodes which is reflected in the artists absolute hatred of credit cards. Since 2002 his canvases have become powerful and more painterly, reflecting issues of the environment and sacred mythology. This also reveals why the artist gave up a Sydney studio for a studio amongst vineyards and olive groves.
