ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My mixed media portraits portray the deep emotions that come as a result of living as a wildly complex creature in a culture that continually asks women to be less complicated. I paint vibrant abstract backgrounds contrasted with dark charcoal to reflect the contrasting characteristics we all hold within ourselves. Often layering in natural elements and florals, I draw attention to the idea that we are constantly blooming, evolving, and moving between the many identities inside each of us. — The illegible script in this piece is poetry written around the ideas expressed above. Mixed Media on Canvas. (Acrylic, Charcoal, Oil Pastel, Gold Leaf). This piece is a part of Madeline’s 2023 Fall collection, “Peace" The canvas has a depth of 1.5 inches, with edges painted with liquid gold leaf. This piece will be hand signed by Madeline and can shipped via UPS from Atlanta, GA or hand delivered with delivery fee.

Atlanta based painter Madeline K Barry has been honing her skills in acrylic abstract portraiture since 2016. Working in mixed media on canvas, she explores the multifaceted nature of women, focusing on the qualities that seem to most contradict each other: Brilliant minds in sexy bodies. Nurturing mothers with thriving careers. Peacemakers that are willing to fight. Her abstract portraits are composed of layers of bright contrasting colors, dark charcoal drawings, gold leaf, and oil pastel. Madeline studied drawing at the Academie Mechelen in Belgium. As a part of the O.M. Art Collective, she expanded her career first through live painting performance at conferences and events before continuing with solo and group exhibitions throughout Belgium, Germany, and later the U.S. Collaborating with artists locally and internationally, Madeline draws her inspiration through uncommon stories from women around the world.
