Rui Mendes was born in Guimarães. Although his academic career has not passed through the visual arts, Rui discovers in digital art a form of unlimited expression for his artistic expression. Digital painting was born in 1972 with the launch of the first software, SuperPaint. Quickly this type of artistic production was adopted for advertising and, already at the beginning of the 21st century, for the field and contemporary art market. Nowadays digital painting is one of the new means of artistic production more widespread in the contemporary art scene. There are more possibilities for freedom in digital art - that is, "mental elements" are "free to enter into various combinations" and thus to be manipulated - than in architecture, painting, and sculpture. This is the reason we now have buildings, two-dimensional photographs and three-dimensional objects modeled and created by computer digital mechanisms and manufactured by computer-controlled machines
