About The Artwork

This was inspired by the marked low winter tides that occur in this area. This beach has an interesting history as it used to be the site of much of the California oil industry that was active in the early 1900’s. The remains of the early oil piers are still in evidence and remain largely in use today by the local pelican population. Natural oil seeps continue to occur regularly through many tiny crevices in the Monterey shale formation that grace this area, forming spectacular shapes. ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE: Historically, the camera has been used to record “reality.” However, reality as we know it has changed with the introduction of digital age, thus creating a perfect metaphor for how one’s perceptions are altered by one’s own history. In this case, a soft, painterly and “textural” style represents the more forgiving perspective one can adopt under certain circumstances, regardless of personal history, previous emotional experience or relationship to the subject at hand. DESCRIPTION: Soft painterly ‘textured’ imagery featuring brilliant color with gloss finish. PRINTING METHOD: Dye Sublimation on aluminum. FRAME STYLE: 1.25” black anodized metal Euro Frame. HANGING: Ready to hang. LIMITED EDITION: 1 of 5, signed and numbered.

For Lori Hoffman, art has been a part of her life from her earliest moments. Born into a family of two successful artistic parents, her father was a well-known jewelry designer and manufacturer of high-end custom jewelry in Beverly Hills for over 50 years. With his highly original work sought after by the social elite, his jewelry remains a prized staple of several private collections to this day. At an early age Lori was fascinated by the camera. Accepted into her high school’s Advanced Placement Studio Art Program, she studied a variety of artistic disciplines, including ceramics, painting, stained glass and photography to name a few. Subsequently, Ms. Hoffman was voted by her peers as "most likely to become an artist." However, it was to be some time before this prediction would come true. After completing her education with a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Photography at Brooks Institute under Ernest H. Brooks II, and graduating with honors, she spent more than two decades as Commercial Designer for Advertising Agencies, Fortune 500 companies and corporations. During this time Lori received numerous awards for her design work. Lori’s Hoffman’s artwork genre can best be described as “Slice of Life.” Over the last 30 years, she has photographed people, places and things from around the world. Using multiple image captures, filter stacking and illustration, Lori Hoffman draws upon her accumulated fine art skills, fusing photography, painting and ultimately, storytelling to create imagery that blurs and softens the boundaries of everyday experiences. Capturing some of life’s most ephemeral moments, and emphasizing them with a painterly touch, Lori Hoffman highlights the ordinary, making it vivid with life and full of promise.
